FAQs

What does a trade association do and why should I join?

A trade association is a nonprofit organization, made up of a collection of companies with common interests in promoting their industry through community, civic engagement and public policy.

MassMEDIC is a collective of 300+ health technology companies with the common interest of changing the paradigm of care through innovation. Founded in 1996, the organization has fostered a thriving medtech community in Massachusetts, New England, and beyond.

My team isn’t located in Massachusetts, can we be members and how do we take advantage of membership?

Absolutely! Membership in MassMEDIC is open to any company that wishes to engage with our thriving medtech community. Although many of our members have some physical presence in New England, we have no such requirement for membership. Out-of-region members can attend our frequent virtual events, leverage our collaborative community, and attend our many in-person events when they’re in town.

What do I get for my membership?

There are several benefits to joining MassMEDIC, including connection, education, awareness, and advocacy. Learn more here.

I’m a small company and we don’t have the budget for stuff like trade associations, isn’t that just for big companies?

Actually, it’s not expensive for small companies to join MassMEDIC with our special pricing for startups and small companies, and the benefits far outweigh the cost. Specifically, our New England Edge discount program can help your company save tens of thousands of dollars on a host of vendors including Thermofisher, Veoilia, Continental Gas and UPS. Many of our small companies save many times the amount they pay in membership fees. Additionally, our complimentary job postings can help you achieve even more savings as you seek to grow your team.

How much does it cost?

Our membership fees are based on the number of employees. Our memberships range from $1,000-$10,500 annually, based on company size.

Who gets to use the membership?

As a member, the benefits are available to your entire team, no matter the location.

Why should I care about advocacy?

Medtech is a federally regulated industry, which means changes in public policy can have a profound and immediate impact on your company. For 25 years, MassMEDIC has led the way in advocating for sound public policy that doesn’t unintentionally hurt medical innovation. As a result, we have developed close relationship with our congressional delegation and state leaders to make sure they understand our industry and its needs. This approach has helped our industry weather many difficult moments.

During the COVID-19 crisis, for example, MassMEDIC helped ensure that medtech workers were deemed essential throughout the state lockdowns. We also were able to make sure our manufacturing workers got priority access to vaccination. In addition, we played an integral role in repealing the 2.3% medical device excise tax, tamping down the onerous Massachusetts gift ban, and helped lead the way to a more predictable FDA.

I’m not a medical technology company, am I eligible for membership?

Absolutely! Any company or organization engaged in any facet of the development cycle or financing for a medtech company is eligible for membership.

I’m a sole proprietor, can I join?

Yes, we have a membership option for our sole proprietors. Email info@massmedic.com for more details.
