Hyalex Orthopedics is an early-stage, venture-backed medical device company seeking candidates for a Mechanical Engineer position. This is a rare opportunity to be one of the first few members of a growing R&D team, playing a critical high-visibility role and helping shape the future of the company. The company is looking for a creative, driven-individual with good hands-on, problem-solving skills who takes pride in his/her work.
The Mechanical Engineer will join Hyalex’ R&D and eventually Manufacturing teams with a wide range of R&D responsibilities that include conducting tests and analyzing results to characterize the mechanical, chemical, and physical characteristics of Hyale’s novel materials and devices. There will also be need for fast turnover of designs and prototypes of testing and manufacturing instrumentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design and prototyping fixtures for testing
Design and prototyping of manufacturing equipment
Modeling of mechanical properties (MATLAB)
Device process related operations, simple control systems
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Performs a variety of complicated tasks
Will need to be resourceful to generate questions and come up with answers
3 years of relevant work experience
BEng/MEng in Engineering (Mechanical, Bioengineering, Materials)
Materials mechanical testing/ Lab experience
Design and prototyping skills, from napkin to working prototype (Solidworks, Machine Shop)
Positive, energetic, self motivated engineer/scientist (very important)
Hands on and willing to operate in a startup environment
Available to start immediately
Knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts (e.g. stress, strain, modulus, strength)
Good understanding of Modeling in Mechanical Engineering – MATLAB
