Annual MassMEDIC Investors Conference Showcases Region’s Emerging MedTech Innovations

Investors Conference attendees heard from early stage medtech companies and public companies on November 1.

Representatives of Hull Associates, a first-time sponsor of the Investors Conference met with meeting attendees during the Networking Break.

Nearly 300 investors and medical devices business leaders gathered at UMass Boston on November 1, 2013, as 18 emerging MedTech companies from the around the region presented their cutting-edge technologies and business plans. Innovations included a portable phototherapy device designed to treat jaundice in developing countries and a novel Lupus treatment that employs trans-cutaneous therapeutic ultra-violet light.

At the conference, market intelligence firm Evaluate shared the results of its annual EvaluateMedTech World Preview report, highlighting growth sectors in the industry including venture capital flows. According to Evaluate, total venture capital financing in the U.S. MedTech sector in 2013 year-to-date is $3.5 billion, of which Massachusetts-based companies raised 20 percent ($608 million).
