Massachusetts Internship Challenge Announced by Massachusetts Life Sciences Center Plans for Small Business Matching Grants and Accelerator Program II also Forthcoming

Earlier this month, the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (LSC) announced plans for its Internship Challenge 2010, a program that funds summer interns at life sciences companies. The program was introduced last year and was responsible for placing over 104 students (over 500 students applied) at life science companies and research institutions. This year, the Mass. LSC hopes to fund 150 undergraduate and graduate student interns. Selected students earn stipends, provided by the Mass. LSC of $15/hour for 12 weeks of work at qualified companies.

Companies interested in participating in the Internship Challenge should visit the program’s website.

Later this week, the Mass. LSC will announce the second round of its Accelerator program that provides loans to qualified Massachusetts life sciences start-ups. Last year, the Center made seven loans averaging $500,000 to emerging life sciences companies. MassMEDIC will provide its members with information on the 2010 program, once details are announced later this week.

In February, the Center will also announce plans for a new Small Business Matching Grant program that will fund companies who have received Phase II SBIR grants. More program details will be available later next month.
