The Surgical Devices division of Covidien (formerly Tyco Healthcare) has awarded $500,000 to the Natural Orifice Surgery Consortium for Assessment and Research™ (NOSCAR™) to establish the Covidien Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery™ (NOTES™) Research Fund. The Fund will focus on supporting efforts to engage physicians in using NOTES™, a minimally invasive, gastrointestinal endoscopic procedure….Start-up company Myomo has received FDA clearance for its “e100 NeuroRobotic System”, a wearable device that detects muscle signals on the skin to automatically move a partially paralyzed limb. The device was tested at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where the company reports the device improved movement in the upper limbs of stroke victims by 23 percent…Danvers, Massachusetts-based Abiomed, Inc., recently gained Canadian regulatory approval for its Impella 2.5 and 5.0 circulatory support systems for ailing hearts….STD Med, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of medical devices based in Stoughton, Mass. has launched a South American distribution division called “Blue Sky Medical S.A..” STD Med is leveraging its OEM manufacturing capabilities and expertise to create a catalogue of affordable, high-quality medical devices for distribution in Central and South America through the Blue Sky Medical division.
