State Funds Life Sciences Talent Initiative to Assess Future Workforce Needs

The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center has funded a one year study to examine the future workforce needs of the medical device and biotechnology sectors. The study, to be conducted by the Donahue Institute of the University of Massachusetts, will focus on current employment trends and long-term employment issues facing the state’s life sciences industries.

MassMEDIC President Tom Sommer and Mass. Biotechnology Council interim CEO, Mark Robinson, will serve on an advisory board that will include several representatives of the medtech community, including: MassMEDIC Chair, Karin Gilman of Symmetry Medical/TNCO; Marie Tremblay of Medtronic; and Barbara Willwerth of Innovative Spinal Technologies. The group will review data and analysis prepared by economists of the Donahue Institute and will offer their perspectives on recommended state policies.
