MassMEDIC Hosts Beijing Delegation at China Market Seminar

Representatives of Beijing’s Municipal Government, including the director of Industrial Development and Director of the City’s Intellectual Property Office, participated in an informational seminar for MassMEDIC members on June 16.

Cheng Lianyuan, Beijing’s Industrial Development Director, briefed attendees on the life sciences industry in his city, while Hu Ping outlined government efforts to enforce intellectual property rights. Earlier this year, MassMEDIC and the City of Beijing signed a letter of intent to foster collaborative relationships between the medical device clusters in both regions.

Charles Li, a senior director at KPMG China, followed with a presentation on tax and financial considerations in establishing a base of operations in China. Genzyme’s James Xue concluded the program with his perspective on entering the China market.

MassMEDIC was the first regional medtech organization from the US to participate in the ChinaMed show, representing 14 member companies and distributing collateral material to attendees. MassMEDIC is planning to participate in another trade show in China in 2007.
