Environmental News – DEP Regs/European Directives

The Mass. Department of Environmental Protection has proposed regulations to streamline environmental requirements for Massachusetts medical device and biotechnology facilities. The regulations provide medical device and biotechnology companies with exemptions from certain industrial wastewater, air pollution and hazardous waste rules. NxStage Medical, MassMEDIC member located in Lawrence, recently announced its plans to file an initial public stock offering. …Insight Product Development recently launched a web site devoted to medical device product development. The site will provide information on industry trends, design controls and case studies of product development methodologies. Further details can be found at: www.insight-md.comInnovative Spinal Technologies, a start-up company spun out of the Texas Back Institute, will relocate its operations to Massachusetts, according to recent news releases. The company, currently in the process of selecting its base of operations, plans hire 40-50 employees by the end of the year. Commenting on his selection of Massachusetts, the company’s CEO, Scott Schorer said "We looked at Minneapolis and Silicon Valley but chose Boston because of the people. The universities produce a lot of engineers, and the market also has ancillary businesses that develop professionals that do similar work as we do.” …. MassMEDIC’s booth location at MEDICA 2005 has been finalized – Hall 14 D17.
