POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title:        Manufacturing Engineer                                                        Department:   Engineering

BASIC FUNCTION

Perform engineering work related to planning, developing and adapting a variety of technologies and methods for the most cost effective and efficient manufacturing of disposable medical devices.  Provide engineering guidance and support to the manufacturing organization to facilitate efficient operations within the production area and compliance oriented environment.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides guidance and support to the manufacturing organization to facilitate efficient operations within the production area, optimize existing processes and to ensure that production goals are achieved.

 

Reviews and monitors performance of equipment, machines and tools and identifies and corrects equipment problems or process parameters that produce non-conforming products, low yields or product quality issues. 

 

Optimizes production by working with others to understand new and existing products and utilizes technology to develop process improvements; enhance procedures, fixtures, tooling and equipment.  This includes providing design for manufacturability (DFM) input.

 

Optimizes processes for improved product quality, yield improvements, and cycle time improvements.

 

Implements Lean manufacturing concepts to eliminate non-value added activities.

 

Provides guidance and direction to Set Up Operators and other production personnel to ensure effective set up techniques are implemented.  Trains set up and production personnel, as required in a compliance oriented environment.

 

Interfaces with R&D to integrate new products or processes into the existing manufacturing area.

 

Initiates and completes technical activities leading to new or improved procedures or processes, for current or new customers, and to meet strategic goals and objectives of the company.  Develops and prepares reports and make presentations to communicate findings and/or recommendations.

 

Analyzes and solves problems through the application of engineering principles, theories and concepts.

 

Resolves problems and assists others in problem resolution when inaccuracies occur between the documentation and the assembly procedures.  Generates engineering change orders (ECO’s) as required.

 

Ensures proper documentation is prepared and completed to meet company Quality System requirements (i.e., work instructions, engineering technical reports, validation protocols and reports, FMEA's, equipment specifications, and product specifications/prints).   
 

Works cooperatively with others and other departments to ensure the success of manufacturing process improvements.   Participates in project teams and represents the manufacturing engineering function.

 

Efficiently resolves raw material, process, equipment, and training issues on production floor.  Develops and implements corrective actions as required.

 

Examines equipment, processes, operations, and assembly to determine time or quality revisions and suggests improvements.

 

Contributes to the purchase of new capital equipment by evaluating vendors and proposals and making recommendations to management.

 

Maintains compliance to the Pelham Plastics Quality Management System procedures.  Adheres to the company’s policies & procedures. 

 

Performs all other duties as required or assigned

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent

EXPERIENCE:  3-5 years manufacturing engineering in the plastics and/or medical devices industry

SPECIAL SKILLS: Understanding of engineering principles, theories, concepts, practices and techniques; able to read blueprints and schematics; understanding of Quality Control principles; process validation; good communication skills and ability to communicate at all levels in the organization.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Able to lift up to 20 lbs; sit, stand, bend and stoop; good visual acuity and capable of fine motor skills
