Senior Buyer-Planner

 

ConforMIS, Inc. is a privately held company incorporated in 2004 that develops and commercializes medical devices for treatment of osteoarthritis and joint damages. Our mission is to provide best-in-class, patient-specific implants and instrumentation that minimize the trauma and scarring, and improve the limited reproducibility often associated with traditional orthopedic implant surgery.  We have an opportunity for a Senior Buyer-Planner to join us in meeting this ambitious mission.

 

JOB PURPOSE:  Secure materials and equipment necessary to produce ConforMIS products to meet the Company’s Sales & Operations Plans and Quality Objectives.  Participate in establishing the long-term infrastructure for all Materials Management functions.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Purchasing
    1. Purchase direct materials and OEM’d finished products based on analysis of on-hand quantities and future master production schedule (MPS) requirements.
    2. Purchase production equipment and tooling, and MRO materials as required.
    3. Purchase services required to support the company.
    4. Revise purchasing procedures and associated forms.
    5. Support the company’s planned implementation of its Enterprise Requirements Planning (ERP) and Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
    6. Maintain appropriate records of materials transactions as required.
  2. Manufacturing Support
    1. Establish and maintain a monthly Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process
    2. Maintain a Master Production Schedule that meets operating plans defined by the monthly S&OP.
    3. Maintain product Bills of Material once initiated by R&D.
  3. Inventory management: 
    1. Manage component and finished goods inventories, both within the company and as consigned to suppliers.  Assume responsibility for managing inventory to assure high levels of product availability, yet balance same with prudent inventory turns performance.
  4. Oversee receiving and storage of materials and supplies; seek ways to improve procedures in a manner that reduces potential errors and costs.

 

  1. Plan, schedule and monitor production builds within supplier locations to meet customer service level requirements.   Do so with guidance from Customer Service personnel as to prioritization and timely delivery goals.
  2. Assist in implementing and operating an ERP system to define procurement and production needs to meet customer service level requirements and corporate inventory goals. 
  3. Lead the interaction with suppliers to communicate performance expectations and assure on-time supplier execution. 
  4. Manage Supplier Qualification Process by:
    1. Document criteria for initial approval and re-evaluation of suppliers.
    2. Maintain list of approved suppliers.
    3. Summarize supplier performance and non-conformities for Management Reviews.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must have a minimum of five years demonstrated success in purchasing or planning capacities, preferably in a medical device business. Experience should include purchasing of: machined metal and plastic components, packaging materials, outside services and MRO items. Candidate must be experienced with ERP/MRP systems; experience in lean manufacturing environments is a plus. 

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering.  APICS, NAPM, or ISM certification also desired.
