Principal Engineer - Industrial Design & Human Factors

You will take responsibility for, and participate in, the complete development cycle for innovative Medical Products.  Your consideration of the user at every step of the development process will lead to compelling designs for new products that exceed user expectations.

Position Responsibilities 

·        Lead and develop Cambridge Consultants’ Industrial Design offering for medical devices in the US, covering both human factors and industrial design components

·        Produce consistent work autonomously in your area of expertise and be sought out for advice in this area by engineers within the international Cambridge Consultants group

·        Interact with teams across Cambridge Consultants broad technical base in the USA and Europe which includes mechanical engineering, product design, software, electronics, informatics, regulatory affairs, life sciences, manufacturing technology and process automation

·        Lead meetings with clients and users, running workshops, giving presentations, and communicating ideas and product concepts to all disciplines

·        Support the activities of Business Developers in sales meetings, writing sales presentations, producing sales materials, project proposals and planning projects

·        Support recruitment, training and mentoring activities

 

Position Qualifications 

·        Minimum of 8 to 10 years experience in industrial design and human factors for medical devices

·        Experience designing and administering user studies

·        Compelling and relevant design portfolio a must

·        Strong visual communication skills including concept illustration and story-boarding

·        Expertise in rapid prototyping and model building that incorporates a design-for-manufacture philosophy

·        Experience of GUI design a significant advantage

·        Working knowledge and experience with regulatory practices in the USA and EU, with strong emphasis on user elements, from user requirements capture through to design validation

·        Market experience in drug delivery devices, diagnostics and/or surgical tools a significant advantage

·        Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

·        Up to 30% travel required (including international travel)

·        Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline required

·        Master’s degree in a related field a plus

·        Permanent residency or US citizenship required
