Job Title: Principle Systems Engineer

Position Description: 

The purpose of the job is to maintain and grow the Systems Engineering domain within a small rapidly growing company with multiple ongoing research and development (R&D) projects.  The Principle Systems Engineer will be responsible for guiding a project from project launch through the phases of requirements definition, functional definition, physical design, and design validation which culminate in the ultimate fielding of the system under development.  

 

The successful candidate will be someone who has worked in a multi-disciplinary technical capacity, project/program management, or with many years experience in a single domain wishing to transition to a multi-disciplinary role.  Formal training in the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) methodology and military experience is highly desired but not required.  

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Experience in managing and coordinating the activities of multiple engineering disciplines
  • Breadth and depth of knowledge in the areas of Algorithms, Electrical/Electronics, Mechanical Enclosures, Optics, and Software in order to effectively communicate within each of these functional groups and balance individual functional capabilities within the context of the overall system
  • Ability to effectively balance the triple constraint of cost, schedule, and technical risk while maintaining quality
  • Ability to work in a collaboratively managed environment in a fast paced company

Skill Requirements:

  • Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) experience
  • Working knowledge of system architecting principles and practice
  • Working knowledge of integration, verification, and validation (I,V&V) principles and practice
  • Project reporting experience for both government and commercial contracts

 

Experience Requirements:

MS Degree in Systems Engineering with 3-5 years of professional experience, preferably in an entrepreneurial pre-IPO culture.
